Sidewinder, *Crotalus cerastes*. Venomous and best observed from a safe distance.

Thank you! We were hanging out on our patio, only our second day owning this home in Twentynine Palms. My wife looked over and saw this little guy just chilling about 6 feet away, just off the patio.

Hahaha! Most of us here would consider that very fortunate, but if you don't want that little guy hanging out, give him a spritz with a garden hose and he'll find somewhere better to go.

SirAlPastor

This species in particular is a little more ‘nocturnal’ right? I’ve only ever heard of sidewinder encounters at evening or night but maybe not

Philx570

Look, he’s moisturizing with aloe.

As a kid I spent summers there on the base. Our days were filled with finding snakes and iguanas, it was awesome.

Wow! Great spot! Thank you for sharing.

It looks like you didn't provide a rough geographic location [in square brackets] in your title. Some species are best distinguishable from each other by geographic range, and not all species live all places. Providing a location allows for a quicker, more accurate ID. If you provided a location but forgot the correct brackets, ignore this message until your next submission.
